Junior athletes (U8 to U11) compete on the Saturday and Senior athletes (U12 to U17) compete on the Sunday. The Centre’s participation is dependent upon athletes in an age group being of sufficient standard to form a competitive team. See the Competitions Coordinator for further details.

Zone Track & Field Championships (Open to U7 to U17.)

Across NSW, 24 Zone Championships represent the first stage in gaining a place at the State Track and Field Championships. Eastern Suburbs athletes are invited to nominate their chosen events for our “Inner City Zone” which competes against Balmain, Canterbury, Randwick Botany, South Eastern and Western Suburbs Clubs. However, final selection is determined by the ESLAC Championship Officer on the basis of Friday night performances as each club can only enter 5 U7 to U12 athletes in each event. There is no limit to the number of Seniors per event.
U7s to U12s may compete in 4 events only. U13s to U17s may compete in 6 events. Anyone competing in more than their age group events allows, will be disqualified from the event they did not officially enter into. The relay is an additional event and is not included in the 4-6 events.
Regions, such as our No. 8 Region, with two zones, automatically see the first 6 places in each Zone event progress through to the Regional carnival. Then a maximum of four next best qualifiers from each region will also be taken through to Regionals making a total of up to 16 athletes in each event at Regionals. Under 7 placegetters do not progress to the Regional Championships but do receive medals.

Regional Track & Field Championships (Open to U8 to U17 placegetters in Zone Championships)

Regional Championships are held across NSW each February. The State is divided into 8 regions, 4 metropolitan and 4 country and we participate in Region No 8. This contains just two Zones and qualifiers from the Inner City Zone compete with those from the Southern Metropolitan Zone. The first two places at each of the eight regions will automatically progress to the State Track & Field Championship. LAANSW then selects the next best eight clear final performances from across all regions. Making a total of up to 24 athletes in each event at state. Under 8 placegetters do not progress to the State Championship but do receive medals.
