Due to heavy consistent rain we have decided to CANCEL ESLAC Little A’s at ES Marks this Friday the 7th of February.
Regional Carnival Update. The ESLAC Committee could not have been prouder of how our ESLAC athletes performed at the Regional Carnival last weekend. The conditions were brutal with 42°C heat forcing suspension of the carnival at 11:30am on Saturday morning and a scheduled restart at 4:30pm on Saturday afternoon never eventuating because it was still over 40°C. A further postponement to 5:30pm was scheduled but the heat was unrelenting and everyone went home at 5:30pm with 6 hours of Saturday’s scheduled events yet to run. The Sunday program was rejigged with heats becoming timed finals and field events reduced to a single extra throw/jump for the top 8. The organisers, officials and volunteers pulled together and got the Sunday events finished early and then plowed straight into the unfinished Saturday events. Miraculously, with the brutal heat swapped out for driving rain and approaching lightning, the final event was completed at 7:45pm on Sunday night. What a weekend!
Through it all, in the words of our Club President Drew Richardson, “the parents/carers and athletes were awesome and just dealt with it. Changing times, being called early, waiting for 30 minutes in the call room, missing their events, running in incredible heat, strong winds and then torrential rain were all massive challenges for the athletes and their carers.” ESLAC rose to the challenges and excelled over the whole weekend. Congratulations to the ESLAC Regional Team. There will be further updates on the team’s performance in the next few days.
We look forward to being back at ES Marks next Friday the 14th of February.
