Friday 11 February – McKay Oval

Thanks for your patience last week.  Our first week at McKay Oval had a few challenges but it was great to see so many athletes participating.  We even managed to dodge the rain.  Hurdles on the grass seemed to work well as did the 400m races, even if the times were a bit slower.  We will have points and the program is being finalised and will be added to the website Friday morning.  Please refer to the final program but it will include Hurdles for U8 and over,  one field event,  the 200 metres and a sprint.  Please note in terms of field events we only have Long Jump, Scissor High Jump and Shot Put.  So no discus, no U11+ High Jump and no Javelin.

At 1830 at the flags, we will try to get a ESLAC athlete group photo for the season.  So please assemble at 1830 a the age flags.

We will need some help with the pack up before we lose the light, so any volunteers will be appreciated. The Oxford Street gate remained open until at least 2100 if there are concerns about exiting the park after 8pm.

Could the U6 Parent volunteers assist on the BBQ 1730-1830 and the Under 11 Parents assist at the BBQ from 1830-2000?

The Uniform Shop will be open again and we have the new Easts T-shirts available for sale for $25 in all sizes.  They are great training shirts and they are very popular with the athletes.

Please remember

  1. Our Tots to Under 8s event is from 1730-1830
  2. Our U9s to U17s event is from 1830-1945
  3. Please just line up at the relevant age flag positioned on the field to enable the event to commence

Our usual Friday night coaching will occur from 1730-1820 across hurdles (Mal), sprints  (Leo) and Long Jump (Maxim) for those that have paid the coaching levy.

Regional Championships

The athletes that have qualified are listed on the website.  It was great to see 82 athletes and two relay teams progress.  A program and further information will follow and go to the website when we receive it.  The events is at the Crest Athletics Track at Bankstown again. The program will be similar to zones and we will provide an update as soon as received.  There will be a parent/volunteer requirement and roster.  Again information will be provided as soon as we receive it.

Some key information about our event Friday night is outlined below:

  1. If we cancel due to weather this will be notified by 1300 on a Friday (website, Instagram and facebook).  We try to ensure we hold the event but if heavy rain/storms are forecast at the time of our event we will cancel as our electronic timing gear is impacted by the heavy rain.
  2. New members collecting your registrations, please bring proof of age for your athlete (birth certificate or passport)
  3. For Registration please remember you will need to complete the working with children form (required by Little Athletics NSW) as you will be accessing the general area.  Please note that you will not need to have a Working With Children clearance just complete the form if you are only performing limited parent helper duties etc.  Registration collection will be available from 1700
  4. At registrations, you will also need to complete the parental obligations form advise whether you will help the age manager, help on the BBQ or be paying the non-volunteer fee of $70 for a child or $120 for a family.  We require one carer from each family to assist each week and if this is not possible please pay the non-volunteer fee at registration.  We use this money to arrange a large crew of ex-athletes to ensure the event functions each week.
