2021/22 Season Wrap Up

The season may have ended with a cancellation but the ESLAC State Team didn’t let that dampen their performances at State Titles last weekend.

We had 38 competitors and 1 relay team in 85 events. Unfortunately, 3 couldn’t attend due to COVID isolation and we hope they have a speedy recovery and return to State next season.

It was the best ESLAC performance in many years. As a comparison, in 2017 we won 4 medals whereas at state this year we won 24 medals. We had 6 multiple medal winners. Our Instagram page has some great footage and photos. Our Junior Girls Relay of Bille, Marnie, Aria and Elizabeth won gold again, repeating the feat of last year with a convincing win. Billie joined the team this year as our under 9 and ran a great first leg with Marnie, Aria and Elizabeth showing their class and speed with ESLAC winning by 20m and 50m in front of most of the field.

Our under 10 girls continued their exceptional form, winning every event sprint from 60m hurdles to the 400m, as well as Silver in the Long Jump and High Jump. They filled the entire podium when they finished Gold Silver and Bronze in the 200m. A feat Mal hasn’t seen in the last 20 years at Little Athletics State Titles. Marnie finished with 5 Gold, Capri 2 Gold and 2 Silver and Chloe with 2 silver and 1 Bronze. 12 medals from 3 girls and 50% of the whole club’s medals. They are exceptional young athletes.

Harvey won 3 medals, Gold in Long Jump, Silver in Javelin and silver in Hurdles. Evan also won 3 medals Bronze in 400m, Silver in the 800m and Bronze in the 1500m, all in his first season with us. Aria won two medals a Gold in the relay and a well-deserved Bronze in the 200m. Elizabeth also won 2 medals Gold in the relay and silver in the 400. Gabi our U17 won Bronze in the triple jump in our last year with us. There were many more medallists, finalists and PBs. All supported by dedicated parents and Club Coaches Mal Jemima and Leo.

We also had many top 8 finishers and PBs. State titles can be daunting so well done to all. If you keep up the training and get a good coach you will be surprised what you can achieve. For example, Archie Daley ran a PB to qualify for State in 2021 and ran 10 mins 35 seconds to finish 13th in the 3km. Then 12 months later with some hard work and good coaching from Jeremy Roff he ran 9:16 to take silver with Nationals 3Km to follow tomorrow. That is a massive improvement and one that shows if you set the goal, put in the hard work and have a good coach you can achieve great results. At ESLAC we can help you achieve these goals.

Also good luck to our athletes that are competing at the Australian Track and Field Championships over the next seven days. This includes Piper Simpson, Eliette Millecamps, Gabriella Guerra, Archie Daley, Jack Richardson, Evan Rowbothom and Max Wende. Sprints coach Leo King is also competing. Apologies if we missed anyone.
